This will be our third year participating as crafters. I have a booth with my mom, sister, sister-in-law, and mom's friend. Mom is up there the whole month, and the rest of us come up when we can on weekends to help out. Its always fun, I love being able to display my knitted creations and see people's appreciation of hand crafts. My best seller for the last two years has been my pumpkin hats, so I'm trying to make sure I make a ton of those. I'm also trying to work on some new things, I like to have variety. I think we'll be inside the building again this year, it use to be a restaurant. The first year we had a regular booth, but last year we managed to secure the former restaurant. It looked like a shop and I think many people thought it was a new store and didn't realize that we were crafters. One man made a comment about me being able to bring my son to work, apparently thinking I was an employee. Last year we had a name tag for my 4 year old son, he made for a cute little salesman.

It wasn't for my major, it was just because I love to write. I wrote a short story for my class and turned it in at the end of the semester, and I never got feedback from it. I would love to get feedback from someone. I was thinking about submitting it for publishing somewhere but I'd like someone else to read it first. I think its pretty good, but still I'm critical of myself and I'm not sure if it comes across as I intend.
The story is entitled Scarlett and the Wolfe. I got the idea when I watched the movie Red Riding Hood with Amanda Seyfried. I was excited to see it, a modern adaptation of little red riding hood, with the wolf being a werewolf. However, it was a little disappointing, it was too cheesy and not well written. I thought the idea had such potential. Then my husband said, "why don't you write an adaptation?" So I decided to write a short story adaptation of little red riding hood. It is a modern adaptation, set in a non-specific 'big city' similar to New York. Inspired by the moral of the little red riding hood story "beware of charming strangers" I decided that instead of a werewolf, the 'wolf' character would be a charming stranger that means her harm.
So here is a link to my story published on google docs. If anyone actually reads this, comments would be appreciated.
https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1XXhQAhbfH5FBct8LepIZLagqGsLW59hP1FBLtPD5uz0Katiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16389163625923491393noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8903158764618155767.post-12381788098134589102012-01-27T07:28:00.000-08:002012-01-27T07:44:59.206-08:00Baby ShowerI did make a little sweater for November Rose, I didn't get a picture though before giving it to Tara at her baby shower. Take my word for it though, it was adorable. It was a simple little cardigan but with the yarn I used it made such a cute look. The baby shower was this past Saturday. I took my son with me thinking that my nephews would be there for him to play with, but they were with their dad that weekend. There were other kids there though for him to play with. Lucas loves babies, he is so sweet. I went upstairs and found him holding a baby doll and he said, "look Mommy, a baby!" I told him to come down to eat and he tucked the baby in for a nap. I think I will definitely have to take him to visit the baby once she is born. My son would have made such a great big brother if we had wanted to have a second baby, but we decided to stop at one.

Here are the links to the baby clothes I knitted for November Rose, they are too cute not to share:

http://carissaknits.blogspot.com/2007/07/preemie-hats-for-charity.html
http://susiefreckleface.blogspot.com/2010/03/chandlers-preemie-socks.html
http://lwalters1-ivil.tripod.com/raglanp.htmKatiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16389163625923491393noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8903158764618155767.post-15313021603579057202012-01-14T14:32:00.001-08:002012-01-15T08:42:15.324-08:00November Rose<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 239px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgW8vMMJC6BZBUMjfsvF7XvD_rcIuzefmLmNmIAwkhN93CPX6AYQxgdAvoVjG_K1F4Yl-b1XgCULhmX6J6GNJXK-cwjOs5Aer3boUXsSD90WsaUUi1FQnKknOlfcVqRIkFyvJjTgo7cI_g/s320/IMG_20120115_112849.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5697899893960648354" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 239px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCGZLq5HKzMW9Lb5xKyZiijzr5grY450ykwGAzXz5aGxhaW1wQ32hJwa5-0Toa4eyH60zghSW6HAHwlcj5sZTA32eV9U9ofR6yvQnQ7VLtzeFJtahCy2F1apJe2dXqIyv8QVzNERXHuhA/s320/IMG_20120114_172020.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5697621524725182850" />
I'm finally going to have a niece pretty soon! Between my husband and I, we have 7 nephews, and we have a son, so there have been no girl grandchildren. November Rose is due next month and is going to be a teeny tiny baby. As of right now she is only about 3 pounds. I wanted to try and find some preemie clothes for her since she will be so tiny, but I couldn't find much and what I did find was pricey. So I bought a skein of really cute baby yarn instead. So far I have made one very cute hat and I'm working on socks next. The yarn is self striping, creating different shades of pink stripes plus little rosebuds. I think it will suit her, it certainly goes with her name. November Rose is such a pretty name if you really think about it, sort of poetic. Its like discovering something beautiful in a dark and dreary time.

UPDATE: I finished the matching socks. I'm thinking of making a matching sweater next.Katiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16389163625923491393noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8903158764618155767.post-76763050669334128432012-01-11T13:25:00.000-08:002012-01-11T13:30:20.846-08:00I'm a horrible blogger...Ok, so I haven't posted in a long time. I really should get in the habit of blogging more. I'm finally using twitter now at least. I logged in to my personal account for the first time in 2 years to read The Bloggess' tweets. I love the bloggess, I read her blog all the time, and had to start reading her tweets when I found out I was missing alot. So I should strive to be more like the bloggess...sort of.Katiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16389163625923491393noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8903158764618155767.post-86416745219776549802011-03-02T07:00:00.000-08:002011-03-02T07:08:23.364-08:00Easter items<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 239px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjy96YVqAEsSEhCDBwFnmbUHbQljDlnfDXYxve9drsElQrIe69O-5utMDnQ9Mt6feTB9qIiTFReSkTOSsOe6cZHYwVvkrvnPHl-TQDgu9w-jDfezFjQcac2ZCfnTe1AxBRwusClKK6IiP8/s320/chocobunny3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5579499631504281714" />
I'm working on some Easter stuff for my shop at the moment. I just finished a knit chocolate Easter bunny, its so cute! I'm thinking I might knit some Easter eggs, maybe a stuffed bunny. I've got some time between now and Easter, I want to make sure I get some stuff made and added between now and then. I'm hoping to get some business. It seems I only get business during the Christmas season, and I haven't had a project from the yarn shop in a few months.Katiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16389163625923491393noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8903158764618155767.post-404150398052010892011-02-18T11:16:00.000-08:002011-02-18T11:23:47.713-08:00It's been a while...Wow, it has been a while since I've posted on my blog. Of course I only have 3 followers but still, I should keep going like I have hundreds. I'm going to start working more on some stuff for my shop once I'm done on my current project. For the past couple of months I have been working on items for the Vanna's Choice contest. Now I'm ready to start knitting for my shop again, its looking kind of sparse. Of course finding time is going to be kind of tricky. Not only am I a stay at home mom with a house and a kid to take care of, but now I'm a student again. I finally transfered to the university and I'm currently taking 2 classes. I'm sure I can do it all though!Katiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16389163625923491393noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8903158764618155767.post-25240615034145734442010-07-07T08:23:00.000-07:002010-07-07T08:30:58.109-07:00Be Safe Beanie Pattern<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2cq-G_Jyq7WtyIKAeKHzoA_AZzAbmw-guEQlI9ou5lBhem9v7msOj8CDkBQqx12ruCu096TPUy9II_NJfumbOMVzZKZoGd6-off1eZgZx-SOvOzflVHDhO1gFU5K7wv0Xcr2hCzBUjwI/s320/000_0014.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5491186605012344194" />

Materials:
Worsted weight yarn, 1 ball black, 1 ball pink or red. I was working on it for about a month. It had to be about 6 foot long so it did take a while, and I had a hard time finding time to sit down and work on it. Its a little easier during winter to just sit and knit all day since the weather is cold and nasty outside most of the time. But its summer now and I have a toddler. When its pretty and sunny outside I feel bad keeping him cooped up in the house all day. We both feel better if we go out during the day. So I think I'm down to working on knitting in the evenings while listening to an audio book with my husband or watching a movie. I swear every time I picked up my knitting my son would start crying and screaming at me. He'd want to sit on my lap or play the moment I'm occupied. I tried taking my knitting with us to the park one day, sitting on a bench knitting while Lucas played. Still not quite the best option I'm afraid, as I have to run after him to make sure he doesn't get into trouble.Katiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16389163625923491393noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8903158764618155767.post-80764960683227734122010-04-24T21:52:00.000-07:002010-04-24T22:07:36.827-07:00Project for Yarn ShopI'm still not done with my sweater yet. I haven't been knitting this week, I've been busy spring cleaning. I've got the body done and 1 sleeve done, I'm working on the second sleeve. I'm going to have to put that on hold for a little bit because I have another project from Black Mountain Yarn Shop. I'm knitting a shawl with this extra fine mohair yarn. This stuff is kind of a pain to work with, I hope it looks good when it's finished. The yarn itself is really pretty, the project is a pain. I have 5 balls in different colors, it will be striped. The brand of yarn is Be Sweet. On the label it reads,
"This yarn was hand spun and dyed by women in South Africa under a job creation program that has offered opportunity in an economically depressed rural region with a 75% unemployment rate and little opportunity aside from hard labor in pineapple fields...Enjoy this beautiful product knowing that you have brought hope into a South African community and that a portion of your purchase is helping support the local school!"
I think this is a good brand of yarn to invest it, I wouldn't mind taking a look at what other yarns they have.Katiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16389163625923491393noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8903158764618155767.post-31215296770464512342010-04-11T11:15:00.000-07:002010-04-11T11:34:06.247-07:00Magic LoopMy current project I'm working on is a sweater that I bought the pattern for and really wanted to make for myself. Its an owl sweater, the cowl of the sweater has owls all around using cabling to create the owls. It is a really cool design so I really wanted to make it. The worst part about knitting sweaters is that when you are done with the knitting you have to sew all the pieces together before you can enjoy it, which is a slow tedious process. The best part about this sweater is that it is knit in the round, no seeming for me to do. I got to the part where I have to start working on the sleeves which of course are also knit in the round from the cuff up. I had to start with size 10 needles, I have those in circular but not in dpns. So I had to figure out the magic loop method I keep reading about in these patterns. I found this wonderful website with instructional videos for all kinds of knitting techniques and found a video that showed me exactly how to do it.

http://www.knittinghelp.com/videos/advanced-techniques

Now that I know how to do magic loop this is so easy to do! Even though I have several years now of experience knitting, there are all kinds of things I still need to learn. Now that I have enough experience knitting, its fun learning more advanced techniques. Moving on to more advanced stuff makes knitting challenging and more fun.Katiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16389163625923491393noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8903158764618155767.post-46817444858946953382010-03-29T12:39:00.000-07:002010-03-29T12:44:37.906-07:00Frogged the owl<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiY-8avPqaKTOC3bDXcaCcLIe2UaQqpXmWPiiqppMJgYSU4E_3lUpRby-H40nXvO3PXofa6TFABNMS87xWm3q9kZrIiOP6265g7pf4IQobLHQzKmAuPfeSN9AQXHEjca3AWHixLQMnpprg/s320/100_0733.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454143931520529090" />
I have all the pieces for the owl knit, but I couldn't figure out how to put it all together, and then I remembered I hate knitting toys because they are such a pain. So I have frogged that project for now and may pick it back up at a later time.
I just got back from yarn shopping, and got a bunch of yarn. I found a sale and decided to stock up. So now I have plenty of options but I don't know what to work on next! Hrm, should I make something for myself, or something for my shop? That is the question.Katiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16389163625923491393noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8903158764618155767.post-35482051546011439642010-03-27T19:11:00.000-07:002010-03-27T19:25:25.356-07:00My next project<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 218px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoNjIelg3wcO_KxbtLytHvFwpRhPEAYOZmhdhDw-3zJTx0QczBLpD46XBzwPc2kMNOxS-8u7H7e9fB1mvL9M24gs_ts2Zgm2BUfiww_zNPyhOQvkYp1O1rPmyTkpBv69VZvxjGiWm_5Yw/s320/HarryHedwig.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5453502767092854946" />
I'm making a snowy owl like Hedwig in Harry Potter. I always thought Hedwig was a beautiful owl and wanted a snowy owl of my own. Actually, I'd like a cross between Hedwig and Pigwidgeon, a tiny snowy owl, but I'll just start with this. I have some left over white sparkly wool yarn from knitting snowmen this past winter. I'm thinking the white wool will give her that soft fluffy look. I'm still trying to decide how to do the eyes, I guess I figure that out once I get there.Katiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16389163625923491393noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8903158764618155767.post-4038704347611110402010-03-25T15:18:00.000-07:002010-03-25T15:20:29.111-07:00Finished!<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjm8xm2IMy7UWwdNXcgJ0Hz7duBGwwfANlmIUQWUlhLgt_0sAo1nyS1r8qT5rzM5Ok3dDCqN_MzzjqaV5iQQikc_UWt_CpS_84aEuKH4oXrQc_e1_ylrnyhjp9USbg4uJgMfDEkNOKj5v4/s320/100_0724.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5452699793673011154" />

I finally finished my hat and I just added it to my Etsy store! Last night I think I spent like an hour or so undoing a few rounds and trying to figure out what I did wrong. And then of course my husband came down with the flu and my son wouldn't go to sleep, so it was a fun night. So now I'm almost done with the hat.Katiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16389163625923491393noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8903158764618155767.post-18759103687876651802010-03-24T13:24:00.001-07:002010-03-24T13:27:47.508-07:00Back from Black MountainI just got back from taking a sweater to Black Mountain Yarn Shop. I've been knitting samples for the store, this is my 3rd sample now. Donna, the owner, said she'd have more for me to do in about a week. So I have a week to work on knitting some stuff up for my Etsy store! I'm working on a cotton hat right now, hopefully if my son lets me get some knitting in today, I can finish it tonight.Katiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16389163625923491393noreply@blogger.com0
